About the Divya Desams

108 shrines, sung into memory by twelve poet-saints.

The Divya Desams are 108 sacred temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu, especially revered within the Sri Vaishnavism tradition. They are celebrated in the Divya Prabandham — a collection of Tamil devotional hymns composed by the twelve Alvars, the Vaishnava poet-saints who are traditionally said to have experienced and praised Vishnu at each of these sites.

Of the 108, 106 are earthly temples that devotees can visit today; the remaining two — Thiruppaarkadal and Thiru Paramapadam — are believed to exist only in the spiritual realm. Chola Nadu alone accounts for 40 of the 106 earthly shrines, making it the single richest cluster in the entire circuit.

I.
The Spiritual Epicentre. Anchored by Srirangam (Thiruvarangam), the foremost Divya Desam, revered as Bhooloka Vaikuntam — Heaven on Earth.

The Thirunangur Cluster. A unique grouping of 11 temples near Sirkazhi, known for the annual Garuda Sevai festival that unites all 11 presiding deities in one procession.
III.
Deity Postures. The presiding deities are depicted across three traditional forms: standing (23 shrines), reclining (13 shrines), and seated (4 shrines).
